Leadership

“I see our staff as a large family— with the common goal of providing kind and compassionate care to our residents.”

Nancy W. Hughes

Administrator

With over 32 years at Kerr Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Nancy started in 1990 as the facility social worker, where she served thousands of families across 15 years. From there, she was appointed to the facility administrator role, where she continues her journey today. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UNC Chapel Hill in Psychology, which gave her an early foundation to understand human behavior while fueling her passion for helping others overcome challenges. She is deeply committed to her team, the residents & their families as well as the surrounding community. Nancy takes time out of her busy leadership role each day to make personal connections with anyone she meets, while ensuring the team provides top notch clinical and personal care.

“I treasure one-on-one chats with our residents, taking care of them and just being here for them— it is fulfilling to my soul.”

Elaine Overton

RN, MSN

Director of Nursing

From humble beginnings and a calling to help take care of others, Elaine joined Kerr Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in 2009 as an LPN. Continuing her deep commitment to patient care, she worked her way through nursing school to earn her RN & MSN degree while actively working at Kerr Lake. From there she served in other key roles including Minimum Data Set Nurse, and Treatment Nurse. She meets each day with empathy, care, and kindness— and through her actions, inspires others.

“Caring for the geriatric population allows me the opportunity to learn life lessons that are incredibly rewarding.”

Sharon Pernell

Admissions Director

Sharon has served in multiple roles at Kerr Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation during her 20 years of employment. Knowing the operations from the inside out, combined with exceptional interpersonal skills, made her a perfect fit for the Admissions Director role. She serves as an informed first point of contact for new residents and their families and assists with the entire onboarding process including navigating financial barriers to ensure access to care. Deeply connected to the local community and the local clinicians, she has developed strong relationships with the local hospitals to assist with skilled nursing facility care placement for the geriatric population and frequently holds educational events related to long term care.
